Take your next career step at ABB with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future. At ABB, we have the clear goal of driving diversity and inclusion across all dimensions: gender, LGBTQ+, abilities, ethnicity and generations. Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.
Your role and responsibilities
- You conduct research on sustainable product development in the context of electromechanical switching technologies (e.g., medium-voltage circuit breakers).
- You work on the challenge of assessing the sustainability of a product during its design phase by applying advanced modeling techniques that span across multiple domains such as structural mechanics, multi-body dynamics, materials and manufacturing processes.
- You devise novel approaches to reduce the environmental impact of power grid control and protection products while considering the technical requirements for those devices.
- You contribute with your scientific work to a sustainable engineering approach that allows for the development of environmentally friendly products in shorter development cycles.
- You participate in research projects at ABB Corporate Research in collaboration with ABB development units.
- You interview industrial stakeholders (including ABB) for requirements and design constraints on technologies and implement your novel concepts upon the latest scientific frameworks from KIT.
- You validate your ideas on concrete use cases and follow your concepts through a smooth knowledge transfer into ABB’s development units.
Qualifications for the role
- You have an M.Sc. or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or a related field.
- You have hands-on experience in FEM and/or multibody simulation.
- Demonstrated academic and/or professional experience in product design, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, material science and life cycle assessment are considered a plus.
- Your cross-cultural communication skills, creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and orientation for innovations help you enable new products and services.
- Ideally, you already have experience, or you are open to acquire knowledge in systematic material selection, sustainable materials and manufacturing processes as well as life cycle assessment.
- Proficient English skills are mandatory.
